What is End of Service Benefit?

The End of Service Benefit (EOSB) is a legally protected financial right guaranteed under Saudi Labor Law, Royal Decree No. (M/51), for every employee who has completed at least one full year of service with a private-sector employer. It serves as a financial safety net upon the termination of the employment relationship, regardless of the reason for termination.

Saudi Labor Law obligates all private-sector employers to pay the EOSB immediately upon the end of employment, whether due to resignation, employer termination, contract expiry, or retirement.

How End of Service Benefit is Calculated

The EOSB is calculated based on Article 84 of Saudi Labor Law: Half a month salary per year for first 5 years, one full month per year after that, with additional months calculated proportionally.

Service DurationBase AwardExample (SAR 5,000/month)
5 years½ × 5 = 2.5 monthsSAR 12,500
10 years½×5 + 1×5 = 7.5 monthsSAR 37,500
15 years½×5 + 1×10 = 12.5 monthsSAR 62,500
20 years½×5 + 1×15 = 17.5 monthsSAR 87,500

Impact of Resignation on Benefits

Resignation directly affects the benefit percentage:

Service DurationBenefit % on ResignationStatus
Less than 2 years0%Not eligible
2 to less than 5 years33.33%One third
5 to less than 10 years66.67%Two thirds
10 years or more100%Full benefit

Practical Examples

Example 1: SAR 8,000/month, 7 years, employer termination: (8000÷2)×5 + 8000×2 = SAR 36,000

Example 2: SAR 6,000/month, 3y 2m, resigned: Base SAR 9,500 × 33.33% ≈ SAR 3,167

Example 3: SAR 4,500/month, 12 years, retired: (4500÷2)×5 + 4500×7 = SAR 42,750

الأسئلة الشائعة

أسئلة وأجوبة

إجابات على أكثر الأسئلة شيوعاً

1
How is End of Service calculated exactly?
EOSB is calculated on basic monthly salary: half a month per year for first 5 years, one full month per year after that. Additional months are proportional (months ÷ 12 × annual rate). Only basic salary counts, not allowances.
2
Does resignation affect benefits?
Yes. Under 2 years: 0%. 2–5 years: 33.33%. 5–10 years: 66.67%. 10+ years: 100%. For employer termination, contract expiry, or retirement: always 100%.
3
Are months included in calculation?
Yes. Months beyond complete years are calculated proportionally. E.g., 6 months = 0.5 years. This ensures fair compensation for all periods of service.
4
Fixed-term vs unlimited contract?
Fixed-term has a set end date — natural expiry entitles employee to 100%. Unlimited has no end date, continues until terminated by either party. Both use the same EOSB formula.
